Guelph City Council has unanimously endorsed Fusion Homes’ Block Plan for the Guelph Innovation District (GID). A milestone that sets the course for a 325-acre, once-in-a-generation community to take shape.
Block Plan Endorsement
A Block Plan is the foundation of city building. It outlines where homes, workplaces, parks, cultural spaces, schools, and natural areas will be located, and how they will connect through walkable streets, trails, and transit. Council’s endorsement confirms that Fusion’s vision for GID aligns with the City’s long-term priorities and moves the project into the next stage of planning.
This achievement reflects years of collaboration: with City Staff, with world-renowned planners and designers, and with the people of Guelph. Through public open houses and stakeholder focus groups, community voices helped shape a plan that reflects what residents want and need – from housing and employment opportunities to recreation, culture, and green space.
A Bold Vision for the Future
The Block Plan provides a bold answer to the question: What kind of future are we building for Guelph? It envisions a complete, connected community designed to thrive in a changing world, including:
- A large urban square that will become a central gathering place
- 7.7 hectares of thoughtfully programmed parkland, including sports fields and recreation spaces
- Over 22 hectares of employment land to attract jobs and innovation
- A brand-new community school
- Every resident within a five-minute walk of a park
Together, these features create the framework for a vibrant, transformational community that balances housing and employment with culture, recreation, and environmental stewardship. It’s a plan designed not only for today, but for the generations who will call Guelph home in the future.
